Football in the Community was established at Tranmere Rovers Football Club in 1988 as part of a national scheme backed by the Professional Footballers Association.
The main aim of the scheme is to promote the Football Club to the community of Wirral by delivering various football based activities to people of all ages both at the club and at numerous venues throughout the peninsula.
Through our links with the local Education Authority the schools coaching programme has become an integral part of our scheme with children of all ages benifiting from qualified coaching conducted by the community staff coaches. School holidays are packed with football courses for children to enjoy including the highly acclaimed tots courses for five and six year olds.
We currently have one of the most successful girls football development programmes in the North West with teams now established from under tens through to the open age ladies side who play in the Womens’ National League, northern section.
A very important part of our scheme is the football development programme for people with disabilities. Sam was instrumental in helping establish this activity and with the added input from our colleagues at the Wirral sports development unit this is certainly an activity that will develop over the coming months.
